Message-ID: <3E53D647-A763-492B-BB4E-D87D0C1CCAC4@isoc.org> Hello Everyone, The Internet Society organization membership team is excited to invite you to attend our next event on Internet Fragmentation: The impacts of technical blockings on the economy of Africa. The event will take place tomorrow 28 September 2021, 14:00-15:00 PM UTC. Background On 5 June 2021, the Nigerian government officially put an indefinite ban on Twitter, restricting it from operating in Nigeria. Since then, Nigeria has been considering an Internet firewall and in discussion with China to support Nigeria government capacity to block VPN. Discussion panel Please join high-level experts Abdul-Hakeem Ajijola (Chair, African Union Cybersecurity Expert Group / Chair, Nigerian National Cybersecurity Policy & Strategy Committee) and Emmanuel Ogu (Founder and President, #DearGovernments Organization) as they discuss the Nigerian case as an example of what could happen in Africa and the potential impact on its economy. Furthermore, Verengai Mabika (Senior Policy Advisor Africa, Internet Society) will shed light on the work the Internet Society is doing with its partners to assess the economic impact of the ban and develop a high-level Policy Brief for government officials with key lessons and recommendations. As the trend of technical blockings continues to increase in Africa and beyond, the event will also be an opportunity to discuss what organization members can do to help address this development. Registration Please REGISTER HERE and feel free to invite your colleagues too! We look forward to having you.
