Hello all.

With 10 days to go to the 7th edition of SAFNOG, we are delighted, and 
excited, to welcome you all to sunny and vibrant Cape Town, where we can 
all see each other after 2 years of social distancing.

We have put together a very exciting program that covers a number of 
new, trending, thoughtful, operational and technical topics from within 
our community. Here are some key highlights:

  * The arrival of the new Equiano cable system, and what it means for
    the region, presented by Jonathan Davidson, Google.

  * A keynote on how value within the telecommunications space is
    shifting, and what the modern telco may need to look like for the
    future, by Edgar Kasenene, IDEX.

  * A panel on what the ongoing semi conductor shortages are doing to
    the industry, represented by vendors, operators and distributors,
    and hosted by yours truly.

  * The new paradigm in submarine cable design, using SDM (Spatial
    Division Multiplexing), presented by Alan Hollander, Infinera.

Dear AfPIF 2022 Participants,

Welcome to AfPIF 2022<https://www.afpif.org/afpif2022/> at the Kigali Marriott Hotel<https://www.afpif.org/afpif2022/venue/> in Kigali, Rwanda. We are happy to return to in-person sessions since postponement in 2020 due to the COVID-19 global pandemic.  We look forward to seeing you all during this year?s event happening from 23 to 25 August 2022.

General Information for On-site Participants:


  *   Participants must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 to access the venue to attend AfPIF 2022.  You will need to present a proof of vaccination to receive a badge.  Those without proof of vaccination will NOT be given a badge and permitted to attend sessions and social events. More information about Covid-19 requirements can be found here<https://www.rbc.gov.rw/index.php?id=745>.
  *   Registration will open on Monday 22 August 2022 from 3pm to 6pm (local time), and on Tuesday 23 August 2022 from 7:30am to 5pm (local time). The registration area is located on the Lobby Level.  Any participants in need of a badge after those days will need to come to the AfPIF Secretariat in the Ruhondo Room, located on the B1 level.
  *   Sessions will be held in the Kilimanjaro Room located on the Lobby Level.  Bilateral meeting rooms are located on the B1 level.
  *   Wearing a mask during sessions or while indoors is strongly recommended.
  *   There will be 2 social events: Beers For Peers, on 23 August 2022 from 6pm to 9pm (local time) at the Kigali Marriott, and the Dinner Gala on 24 August 2022 from 6pm to 9pm (local time) at the Kigali Serena Hotel (walking distance from Marriott).  Participants should receive invites via email and will need their badges to ensure entry. Participants without badges will be turned away. NO EXCEPTIONS.
  *   Registrants of AfPIF2022 can use the Meeting Tool<https://afpif22.meetingtool.events/> to book bilateral meetings.
