------------------------------------------------------------

Day 3 of AfPIF 2025 wrapped up the week with a mix of technical sessions, strategic discussions, and community updates. The day began with bilateral peering meetings, the continuation of the Pulse Internet Measurement Forum workshop, and an IXP Development Workshop. Following the welcome remarks, the program featured the Peering Tech Session and Peering Personals #4.

In the afternoon, participants engaged with a presentation on Meta’s Edge Infrastructure Evolution in Africa, the Content at the Edge panel, and a set of Lightning Talks. The forum concluded with a Closing Ceremony, where the community was teased with news of the AfPIF 2026 location to be announced soon, and wrapped up with a closing cocktail hosted by Open Access Data Centres..

** PEERING TECH SESSION
------------------------------------------------------------

The session explored technical topics related to network interconnection including new hardware innovations and IXP development case studies. Ishaq Idris opened with a presentation on AI-driven solutions and secure routing. Mark Tinka of TransmissionCo followed with insights into the deployment of 100G Single-Lambda Optics, while Edrich de Lange from INX-ZA shared progress on the exchange’s path toward 400G capacity.

** CONTENT PANEL
------------------------------------------------------------

Michelle Opiyo from Meta shared insights on the evolution of Meta’s edge infrastructure in Africa. She highlighted how Meta is expanding and optimising its edge presence to improve content delivery and user experience. Key points included deploying edge nodes, partnering with local networks, and investing in regional infrastructure to reduce latency, boost performance, and meet growing digital demand.

A panel on "Content at the Edge: Unlocking Faster and More Reliable Experiences" examined how moving content closer to users enhances speed, reliability, and overall experience. Speakers stressed the role of edge infrastructure in reducing latency, offsetting transit demand growth, and delivering quality of service. Moderated by Telegeography’s Patrick Christian, the discussion featured Ben Ryall (Meta), Muhammed Rudman (IXPN), Ikechukwu Nnamani (Digital Realty), Ayotunde Coker (Open Access Data Centres), Atul Palliwal (Airtel Africa), and Amrish Singhal (Spectranet).

** LIGHTNING TALK
------------------------------------------------------------

Cedrick Mbeyet gave a lightning talk on AFRINIC’s management of Internet number resources, sharing updates on IP allocations, IPv6 adoption, and AFRINIC operations. He stressed the importance of efficient resource management to support Africa’s expanding internet infrastructure and ensure fair access for network operators.

Other lightning talks delivered key updates from organizations driving regional connectivity and collaboration. Obinna Adumike shared a PeeringDB Update, highlighting platform improvements and the need for accurate data. Edward Banjo presented the WACREN Update, covering progress in regional connectivity and capacity building. Patrick Okui provided a RouteViews Update, emphasizing its role in improving routing transparency. Then Cedric Mbeyet returned with a Regional Peering Forums Update, outlining efforts to advance local and cross-border peering across Africa.

** CLOSING CEREMONY
------------------------------------------------------------

The closing ceremony of AfPIF 2025 marked the end of a successful three-day forum dedicated to advancing internet interconnection and infrastructure across Africa. Speakers reflected on key highlights and takeaways, praising the collaborative spirit and contributions of participants, partners, and organizers. The ceremony underscored the importance of sustained engagement, regional cooperation, and capacity building to maintain momentum. Gratitude was extended to sponsors, attendees, speakers, professional conference organizers, AMSTER, and the Government of Nigeria. The event concluded on an optimistic note, looking ahead to future AfPIF gatherings and continued progress in Africa’s digital development. The host location for AfPIF 2026 will be announced soon.

** CLOSING COCKTAIL
------------------------------------------------------------

The event concluded with a closing cocktail hosted by Open Access Data Centres, held at the poolside of the Lagos Continental Hotel. This informal gathering provided a relaxed setting for participants to network, reflect on the week’s discussions, and celebrate the progress made toward enhancing internet infrastructure across Africa.
